The project evolves around my grandmother and exploring unknown territory of fashion photography using 19th century photographic technique of wet plate collodion. Photographs were scanned and digitally colorized. Separate colour layers are put together with collodion scans so that they can be observed as separate and equal images. For wet plate collodion the context of fashion is something unknown and unexplored as it was the same for my grandma. Large format camera used in wet plate collodion involves using self-prepared chemicals- it seems like an opposition of a digital world of colours and garments. I intended to take what’s best from the 19th century and combine it with the present.
